d_a_t
Hello. I am following the steps to install oscommerce on remote server by FTP client. After changing the permissions in the CHMOD to 777 for 2 config files, I don't know how to start the install from this point on. The Webb-based installation documentation says: "Open your web browser, and point it to yourserver/catalog/install/ and follow the Installation Procedure." I typed name of of server in the adress bar of my browser followed by /catalog/install/. But the browser page says: "FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!" Please help.
♥Vger
Unless you own the server you can't edit php.ini - you don't have access to it. osCommerce, by default, is set to work with Register Globals set to 'On' in php.ini. To make it work with Register Globals set to 'Off' you need to install the Register Globals patch files. Look below my name for the link to the completed files - or you can manually install the patch from the original contribution. Vger Vger
d_a_t
Hello Vger. Thank you for advise. How should I use the Register Global Patch? I downloaded it, then unzipped, then transfered to my server with FTP. Then I retried in the browser's adress bar "pcking.ca/sportgear/catalog/install/. But it still gives the same warning page: "FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!" I then tried something else. I copied the "catalog" folder from the Register Global Patch and poasted it over the "catalog" folder of OSCommerce on the server. Then my browser seems to be looking unresponsive for ever. Please advise.
♥Vger
Try deleting all of your Temporary Internet Files, including all Offline Content, and then clearing the History Files on your 'puter. Also, under Tools --> Internet Options in your browser click on Settings and make sure that under 'Check for newer versions of stored pages' that it is set to 'Every Visit'. Then try again. If that does not work then there may also be a caching delay with files on the server. I'd leave it a while (few hours) and then try again.
