dave111 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Is there anyways to automatically ban people with IPs from select states?
developer_x Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Hi, I guess there is a contribution available for doing that. Irfan,
dave111 Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 I searched but didnt find, can you paste link please
FalseDawn Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 If you mean US states, then no, since there's no way to determine the state from the IP address. top level IP ranges are generally allocated to countries, and subdivided into ISPs and major organisations usually, so you can ban entire countries or subranges if you know what range you are interested in. Even that is not foolproof - there are easy ways to mask your IP address.
dave111 Posted April 18, 2005 Author Posted April 18, 2005 Bummer, i figured there might be a way to lookup users IP on connect and if their City/State = whatever then add them to IP deny list. I guess not.
♥Vger Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 Often, if the customer is US based and has cable and that persons ip address is blocked the cable will reroute to another ip address anyway. I had this problem with one of my sites and a hacker using Road Runner. I've lost count now of how many Road Runner IP addresses I have blocked. And Road Runner IP addresses ARE allocated in blocks based on their State, but if you block Road Runner New York then it'll just reroute to Road Runner Boston anyway. Vger
