customization of new products area

I'm very new at php and am setting up osc for a client who sells carry all bags. She sells 6 styles of bags in about 36 colors and patterns. I've opted to make the colors the product and the style as an attribute. this way when she wants to discontinue a color she can put it on special.

What would be perfect for the front page would be to show 50 px swatches of all of the new colors in the New products area. I would like to have 9 columns wide and 3 rows high. I successfully got the 9 columns but can't find anywhere how to get the 2 extra rows I need.

 

I could also use a little guidance in modifying the header are to add a table with some site nav buttons.

 

finally, I used the contribution to set the size of the page using CSS and somehow the right column has shifted down.

how can i resize from sides like yours?
