error when returning from PayPal

When I check out through PayPal using either PayPal Optional or as a PayPal member, when it's time to return to my web site, I get the following:

It's identified as coming from checkout_process.php

It says: Warning:Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output stared at ...includes/modules/payment/paypal.php:137) in .../includes/functions/general.php on line 29

(The ... obviously represents my web site and the path to the shopping cart.)

This is the first time I had tested an actual transaction this far through the process.

I had enabled auto return to ...checkout_success.php before starting testing. I did turn it off to try it and the results were the same.

Additional info: from the warning screen (PayPal optional path) I can go back to PayPal and then click on the button to take me to the merchant screen and the second time it works. Also, in all cases, as long as I try to go back, my shopping cart shows the transaction as pending, so some info is getting through.

TIA

Additional information. I found this same error quoted in a thread about PayPal not generating an order. Unfortunately, there was no response posted. The site seems to be live (no contact page or I would try to find out directly from them). Can anyone offer help please? I am soooo close and soooo stuck!
