The e-commerce.

Unified Customer Database?

Recommended Posts

Is there a feature of contribution that provides for the customer account database to be shared with other applications?

Ideally osCommerce amended to fetch customer account details from another database or table in MySQL, or alternatively would there be any issues in adding additional fields to the osCommerce "customers" table?

In my scenario I have an existing MySQL database that is used by the Surgemail email server (from NetwinSite) to provide sophisticated access-control for advanced email services, and which has been extended to support a members-only & by-invitation-only web application.

I would like to have a single login/password across all services including osCommerce, and possibly shared use of activity data.

This would have several advantages:

1) web-application/email users already have an account which should be used by osCommerce.

2) being able to use shopping information in the web-site

3) showing products in the store based on the member's use of the web-app

Also, osCommerce would need a modification such that non-members would be unable to buy anything under predefined catalog categories (e.g. Memberships)

Any suggestions eagerly awaited.
