♥14steve14 Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Store can be found HERE I have been setting up this store for a while now, and finally its all come together - i hope. I have spent a while looking at other stores, and finding the bits i liked. Adding the has been an experience in trial and error. Lots of contributions have been added, and i feel that there are possibly more to do. I quite look the look of PWA, but 41 pages of support doesnt inspire me that much. I must also add on a print pricelist contribution, as i have been asked for one. It might also be nice to offer pricing discounts on bulk purchases, but that can wait. What i am after is peoples thoughts on the site. I have tries to make oscommerce look different, whether its right i will find out later. I hope everything is working, if not again, i am sure that i wil lfind out. It may not be to everyones tastes and that will be prooved later. The store is live and taking orders, so something must be right, but possibly not as many as i would like. Who doesnt want more. Store can be found HERE I will listen to all your thought, idea, grumbles and all, give them some thought, and if possible i will try them all out. Nothing lost nothing gained. Be harsh, but most importantly be honest and fair. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
AfterDark Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Am really not lovin the color scheme... the yellow - too much IMHO. Best of luck.
dblake Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 When I look at your site I do not think computers. I think country, firewood, loghomes, country loghomes? If you selling computers, I would go with more of a "hightech" look. Just my opinion. -Dennis

It would be interesting to see how many like it. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP

I do realise that you cant please all the people all the time, but you will be suprised by the people you have said they like it like it is. Although i can see your point, and if anyone is selling log cabins, i can tell them how to get the look. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
Destra Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 The header box text is either too small or blurry as it is a little hard to read, categories is also misspelled. Try using the GIF picture format as it produces sharper text images over JPEG. The yellow background colour for your form elements is very odd and off putting. If you want to use yellow make it a different shade at least so that it contrasts somewhat with the yellow of the site. The layout definitely does not scream computer company that is for sure.
♥toyicebear Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 If i were looking for a computer/computer parts and happened across your site, i would imidetly continue my search for a computer shop...... Why...because there are nothing which catches my eye on your front page, only text and your choice of design/them does not really tell what you are offering. Suggestion....add some products and/or category links with relevat pictures in the center of your front page........ secretuser Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I don't like the turds and urine color. If I didn't no any better, I would think your site came right out of the year 1973. I figure you would be selling the Apple I computer at best. Terrible site. You must completely revamp the color scheme. As stated, browns and yellows are very 1970's.
secretuser Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Since this forum is to bestoy advice, backup your database and completely delete your site from your server, it is beyond hope. Upload a brand new clean copy of OsCommerce and reload your database and your site will improve over 5000% by just using an unaltered stock OSCommerce site. From there, you can redu and make improvements. Again, I'm serious, it would be 20 times eaasier to start with the stock OSCommerce to redu your site then to try to revise this awful site.
secretuser Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 One more thing, look at the other guy who left you feedback, After Dark. His / her site is for web hosting and is absolutely gorgeous, one of the prettiest OSCommerce sites I have ever seen. Of course, After Dark must be a computer guru to make a site that nice, but you might get a clue to the color scheme. High tech to me is black and blue or black and dark green with images of silica chips.
secretuser Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I am personally terrible with colors. But with the help of technology, we can all be more proficient with colors. Your choice of colors is a clear indication that you are like me, color impaired. I strongly suggest downloading a trial version of a color wheel program. Most will give you a 30-day trial period, enough time for you to pick the colors out that you like. I have stayed with the stock OSCommerce colors for nearly a year because of my color impairment. With a color wheel, it becomes really easy to pick colors you like. Just so that you know, BROWN is NOT on the color wheel. Why, it is a has been color that no one would want to use. However, yellows are on the color wheel and if you like yellow, you can use yellow with its completementary color blue. Or if you want analogous colors (those from one side or the other of yellow, you can use some orange and light greens with yellows without being offensive.). You can also use triadic colors of yellow, pink, and cyan. If you want 4 colors, you can use shades of yellow, blood orange, dark blue and light blue or instead move up the color spectrum to yellow, light green, purple, and blue. Using any of the above color schemes would not be offensive to the eyes but might not be high tech. As stated, I think of high tech as being black with blue to dark blue or black with dark green.

♥14steve14 Posted April 14, 2005 Author Posted April 14, 2005 Well seeing as people didnt like the brown, i have finally sucumbed and changed it to my second choice that is black and white with a hint of light grey. I hope that people like this colour scheme. I must confes to not being too sure that it looks right without boxes around the infoboxes. What do you think? I still have a few little changes to make, but i think that you would agre that it looks better. I am in the process of making new graphics for the main index page to make the site more interesting. If anyone has any ideas on this scheme please let me know. My new page REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
secretuser Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 WOW, taking out the brown and yellow really improved the site leaps and bounds. It is now plain, but that is a huge improvement. Good Job. Do consider downloading a color wheel for some ideas. One thing that I have learned from your site is that I really like the idea of writing "You are here" on the header bar. I think I will incorporate that into my site as well, it makes so much sense.

♥14steve14 Posted April 17, 2005 Author Posted April 17, 2005 Store can be found here May seem silly but i have changed things again upon the advise given to me. I like it so much better. Now its the time to complete the adding of products, and a little bit of sorting out. I have a few contributions that i want to apply, and once i get time, i will do it. I am still sure that people wont like it, buy i have shown it to a web designer, and he likes it. Its plain, simple, easy to navigate and user friendly. What morte could be required. UnrivaledPC Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 You have a fixed width. But you're not enclosing your content. I suggest some heavy modding of the stylesheet and of the site style in general. Download a template or something and get rid of all that white space. What that dude was trying to say about county is not far off, either. It's not techy and doesn't sound like "computers" and lacks the appeal your target audience is looking for. Your content seems good, you just need to put some man hours on your design and find a template that is suitable. Search for preconfigured osc style sheets if you're lazy, or go into the source of someone elses and download it. http://www.somestorestyleyoulike.com/store/stylesheet.css Good luck from your competition

Good luck from your competition <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The worrying thing is that i have altered the site alot since then. I still dont know how people get sites to look techy just by altering the colours. I will have to find something to read about colours and web sites. Must say that i like your header. ksaun Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Take 2 steps out of your checkout process and streamline your site, and its easy! Get rid of the "Welcome Please Sign In" Page, this page stops people in their tracks and will hurt your sales. Use this to take the "Welcome Please Sign In" Page and the "Account Created Success" Page out of your checkout process but still collect all their info and create an account or to "Sign In" if they already have an account. http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...60entry598660 Check it out  My Favorite Quote from a movie. Question: How do you know women sooo well? Answer: I think of a man, then take away reason and accountability.
