Carbon Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Hi, I am starting my own custom build PC business and right now I'm still in the website development stage... www.microbuild.com My current ISP (NTL) doesn't seem to support PHP etc so I know I will have to use a web hosting service in the future, but for now it will do as I grapple with learning HTML as I go. My questions are... 1: Can I test OSCommerse offline on my development PC? 2: Can you recommend a good web hosting service? Thanks Carbon
♥Vger Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Yes, you can test osCommerce offline on your PC provided it is set up as a local web server (intranet). The Mail and Post functions will not work unless you also install a local mail server like PostCast. But if you install PostCast be careful to only turn it on when you need it, otherwise you'll have a wide-open connection to the net. Vger

RojanUK Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 1. Absolutely and I personally favour EasyPHP, but that is very personal. It's the easiest solution I think though. 2. I'm guessing you are from the UK, as you currently have NTL as your ISP and in that case I would suggest going for Time2Host. They have the best value-for-money package. Check out their Unlimited package! RojanUK
kenshin Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 1. Yes you can install and test oscommerce on your pc. If you have a windows pc, you will need to have iis 5 or 6 or you can install apache webserver. Download php for windows and install it. just don't forget to stop iis services if you are going to insatall and use apache as your webserver. Lastly download MySQL and install it. 2. for a webhosting service try Data Structures Hosting Solutions . Good Luck :D  Hi, I am starting my own custom build PC business and right now I'm still in the website development stage... www.microbuild.com My current ISP (NTL) doesn't seem to support PHP etc so I know I will have to use a web hosting service in the future, but for now it will do as I grapple with learning HTML as I go.
