How to customize shipping fee for each product?

I'm new to all this stuff. I barely figured out how to use a ftp today.

 

I need to have a different shipping charge for each of my products (not based on weight, but based on my need to make a bigger or smaller margin on a product). Is there an easy way to do this?

 

any hints most appreciated.

When posting the products, pad the weights of the ones you wish to make alittle more on? Maybe pad the "tara" weight in admin (this would pad all the products).

The failing with this method, and any others like it, is that the customer can usually check the box and see how much you paid for shipping, and compare that to what you charged them. Upset customers generally aren't return customers! I think the real problem here is trying to set prices that are too low, then making up the margin in shipping and handling fees. You're lying to your customers in a bad way, trying to pull the wool over their eyes. I don't see it as a viable long term strategy. Charge an appropriate price, and offer free, or actual cost shipping.

Follow up question....

How do I pad the weights without the customers seeing the final weights? to be more precise...how do I add weights for each product but not have the customers know what the weights are?

during the checkout process, when the customer sees the shipping options, under UPS the weight is listed. How do I make that invisible?
