absterlew Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Here's my situation: 1) had a functional store on an existing website. 2) got a new hosting company for above site, uploaded site, installed osCommerce but couldn't configure until I switched over the DNS (it won;t work with just the IP #) 3) since we didn;t want to go public until we had created and tested the store, had the hosting co. switch the domain name on the account to a url we own that is not public 4) configured the store, uploaded products, graphics, bought a certificate, etc... 5) purchased another hosting plan under the desired domain name (again) 6) installed oscommerce to the new site [still not switching the DNS yet] 7) ftp'd the entire contents of the configured store into the default oscommerce folder we had just installed. 8) every link points back to the site we moved it from which is not what we want. My question is: Can we fix this by doing a global search and replace from the undesired domain name to the desired one? OR Are the a few key configuration files that we should not have written over? If I know what not to overwite I can start over and do it more carefully. Any advice?
Iggy Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Look in catalog/includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php for your old address Iggy Everything's funny but nothing's a joke...
coffman Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Are you switching actual domain names? Or are just making all the changes in order to do your testing? -MichaelC
Guest Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 long way around just changing things in the configure.php files, as well as password protecting the site so no one could get in. why wouldnt you want to sell while still buildingthe store, lots of people lose out on that aspect.
absterlew Posted April 9, 2005 Author Posted April 9, 2005 Actually switching domain names - 1 - originally started with icresource.com on the new server - but couldn;t configure the sotre before switching the DNS 2 - so the hosting company renamed the folder on their server wgns.net and we set the DNS to resolve to wgns so we could build and test the store. 3- now its working we want the store to be in icresource.com again. It seems we could a) have them switch the name of the folder again OR B) upload the oscommerce folder into a different folder called icresource.com since we now have 2 sepearte site hosting plans with them (this is what we tried to do, but all links point back to the wgns.net site - which is not surprising). I just wondered if we could "fix" that. What do you think? Are you switching actual domain names? Or are just making all the changes in order to do your testing? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
