Using OSC as Backend Only?

hello everyone

 

before diving right in, i wanted to ask this: can osc be used as purely a backend to a site?

 

I mean, if i want to build a site with a different CMS as the front end, for products, pics and text etc, could i just use osc to add a 'add to basket' link and take care of all the details behind the scenes?

Could use STS and only put the $cartbox tag into the template, if you only want the cartbox to show.
