I have the store setup, it looks great, but...

How do I install the SSL Certificate, so that the site only becomes secure at the checkout?

I dont want https for the whole site, only the checkout procedure.

Can someone plaese tell me what to do.

Thankyou :)

Your SSL certificate is best installed for you on your server by the host (unless you really know what you are doing :D )

I presume you have bought the SSL for your domain - so get the host to instal it then all you have to do is set the paths for https in both your configure.php files to true and osC takes care of everything else :D

Common Pitfalls to watch out for

1) You must set your https path to the exact name your cert is issued in - if you have www.yourdomain.com then this is what you will need to add to the path - if as is more likely you have yourdomain.com in the cert than this is what you need in the path. - If you don't do this your site will be secure but a warning message will be issued every time someone tries to access a secure page because the cert name will be different to what you have in the configure.php paths

2) Be careful about any hardcoded images \ objects in any of your code that is available to secure pages throught for instance the footer - make sure you reference only images and pages on your secure server else you will get security alerts from the cert and nothing puts customers off quicker than security alerts.

3) If your host has a server structure that requires you to have duplicated files in httpdocs and httpsdocs you will have to re-create all files into both directories AND maintain them in parallel in the future - A pain - you betcha - If this is the case start looking for a new host with a sensible everything in one directory structure :D
