Guest
Hello! I got a bigtime problem on my webshop, and that is that other people copy my own images from my webshop, i don`t want to write "www.autoshineshop.no" on all images, becouse that does damage the look, and the images :( I got a Javascript that disables right mouse click, a message comes up and says: "this belongs to www.autoshineshop.no", but people can click OK, and then they can push the "print scrn" button, and then make a image from it :( Therefore i wonder if it is something i can do? JAVA or VB Script? Or something in the PHP code i can edit.. I would like that i can make some text or something come in front of the image.. when people see the image (The bigone one the shop), a text would come in front of it, then they cant use print scrn button.. Someone got any idea? Please.. This is a big problem for me! I see that people all ower the world got my images on their pages :(

obscurity
Ok first and foremost you have to consider the functionality, intrusiveness factors and overall surfing enjoyment of your site compared to the wishes of your customers, weighed again site security. If they do not like you site, its layout, its functionality, its intrusive behavior, and so on, they WILL NOT COME BACK. ANY anti right clicking technology is counterproductive to customers surfing enjoyment and site/browsing functionality. YOU WANT TO KEEP PEOPLE COMING BACK BY MAKING THE SITE AS EASY AND PROBLEM FREE TO NAVIGATE AS POSSIBLE, AN MOST IMPORTANTLY, KEEP THE ONES THAT COME THERE FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. In my opinion all site security should be backend and server side. How do you know they are stealing or are you just assuming they steal them ? Consider this: No one is stealing anything in reality. The way the HTTP protocol works is all web content must be displayed by a browser therefore must be downloaded automatically to the users cache in order to do so. Have you seen other sites using your images ? If yes, are the images YOUR OWN UNIQUE CREATION ? If yes, and IF it is your own unique intellectual property, then COPYRIGHT YOUR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, MD5 Hash the files and have a working database with creation data, copyright info, along with the md5 hashes, then you can go to the sites host/provider/carrier and file a complaint with that info on it so they can act to remove the content and discipline that criminal. Would be a great idea to also have a page linking and listing all images with a disclaimer that you aggressively prosecute anyone stealing your content. If all you are worried about is the main image, i would incorporate your store name INTO the image perhaps using paint shop pro or photoshop, changing the opacity of the text so it doesnt look hard over the image, but a softer flow into the image as a part of it. Or better yet creat your own image like a car logo with the name. Looks to me like you yourself are violating law by using manufacturers automobile pictures on your site and i see no disclaimer listes on your entire site licensing you to use them. If you arent licensed to use automobile manufacturers pictures of their cars it is stealing jsut like people are doing with your own pictures. If people hotlink your files, simply enable file hotlink protection in your hosting control panel or in .htaccess.
obscurity
another word of surfing ease ... i visited your site http://www.autoshineshop.no/ and i can tell you, as a frequent online shopper i think the intrusiveness of your popup message makes your site very bad, and just by visiting once i will never shop there because of it. When i shop online, as most people like to, I like to open windows by right clicking and opening in another window from an index of items, so I can review and compare, see lots of things at once and SHOP ... NOT be constrained by someone who thinks they are all fancy using antiquated anti right click code because they think its cool and to stop someone from stealing an image the site owner probably stole as well. It's jsut a bad idea because it limits customer oprtions on surfing. remember this isnt a personal site, its a public shoping site. Who cares about a meaningless image. Don't you think it should be about the customer ? I mean you DO want to make some money with this site ... don't you ?

Here's some software that lets you do it: http://www.digimarc.com/watermark/imagebridge/ Larry

TCwho
Folks the right click crap doesnt work... 1. it can easily be bypassed by using any other browser other than IE 2. Disable Javascript in your browser 3. or just put this into the address bar and hit enter: javascript:void(document.oncontextmenu=null) !!! oh and the idea about having the transparent image over it... that will fool your average user.... but guess what ... someone who wants your image to put onto his/her website --> most likely has the skills to find where the true image is Drop_Shadow How Did You Hear About Us Email HTML Order Link ---- GMT -5:
tvega
I would simply place a transparent watermarked image of your company logo behind the images you are trying to protect. I have all my images protected that I spent money getting professionally photographed.
obscurity
wow you people sure take alot of time and effort to code something so simple ... if you MUST disable right click why be so unprofessional and obtrusive about it ? jsut add the following to the body tag: <body oncontextmenu="return false" ondragstart="return false" onselectstart="return false"> you also state you are worried about only the people who dont know what theya re doing ... yet you say you are worried about people putting the images on their websites ? Wouldnt logic dictate that IF they have a website they already know any tricks to get any image they want already ? man you do like to waste your time and make your site very unprofessional in the process ! The Only real defense is a watermark ... downlaod paint shop pro or photoshop and learn how to do it ... it is easy !
