nassiri Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Hi Introduction: I installed MySql, PHP4 and OSC on a Linux server. I call ..../catalog/index.php on Mozilla browser on the Linux server and everthing is fine. Problem: Through a private network 192.168.xx.xx, from an XP Home IE6 I call ..../catalog/index.php and all of the text without the special Fonts come through and the graphics just appear as boxes with a red cross in the middle. Any Ideas? Many thanks
Wendy James Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 Do you have the special fonts installed on your computer? If you don't then you wont see them... and neither will any of your customers. You should never go with anything other than standard fonts when making a site, and if you really really want to then you should always define secondary and thirds, just incase a viewer doesn't have what you want them to see. Or use graphics for the particular word/words as long as it isn't a whole page. Wendy James Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.
nassiri Posted March 28, 2005 Author Posted March 28, 2005 Many thanks for your reply but I think I mislead you by saying that special Fonts don't appear on the screen. I haven't done any change to the standard OSC but what I am getting across the network is Pure text in standard Aial format like you get on a Basic text editor. The graphics are also as it came with OSC but still doesn't appear on the screen. Any Ideas? Thanks
♥Vger Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 If you are trying to access it from another computer, even on a home network, you won't see your website on 'localhost' unless you have added it to your 'hosts' file in XP. Vger
nassiri Posted March 28, 2005 Author Posted March 28, 2005 Thanks for your reply, I use the IP address to get to the Linux server website like so: 192.168.0.6/oscommerce/catalog/index.php The page is found and the text appears on the XP client machine. The text somehow loses the specified OSC Font and appears on the XP IE6 as Normal Arial text and the graphics just doesn't come through at all. I hope you understand what I mean. Many thanks
