Have a question concerning Category Listings

I hate the way the categories are stock, and I know you can change almost every aspect of the cart with this software. What I am trying to accomplish is a simple tree style menu without the heading on the top. I use sts for the template modifier so I modified the left column to be a gray background. Now what I want to do is remove the boarders and heading for the the boxes that go in that column.

Now with the listing I wanted it all to list, not to were you click it and it lists it, but just everything is listed.

 

Thanks for the help, I did try searching but it seemed like a never ending search.
