DB problem during Install (step 2)

homerlex

Recommended Posts

Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3

PHP 4.3.2

MySql 4.1.10a-standard

Apache/2.0.46 (Red Hat)

After I submit the database information I get a page that just shows the Header of the page. No errors or anything. I can put anything in db info for and get the same result.

I had seen some similar posts about people having this problem and down grading to apache 1.3 solved the problem. Is there any way to get this working with Apache 2?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Regards

Checklist:

1. php4.3.2 is way too old - hackers dream! Upgrade to 4.3.10

2. Blank database set up?

3. Folder permission set to 755, except install which is set to 777, and the two configure.php files set to 777 for the install to write to them.

4. Safe Mode = Off

5. Register Globals = On

6. User Name and Password set up for mysql access?

Thanks for the reply.

I have everything in your check list set (except upgrade PHP - this is only an internal evaluation) but I still have the same problem.

If only there were some error message to help diagnose the problem ...

I figured it out. PHP was dying on the call to mysql_connect and no error was being returned. I was using a PHP rpm and tried adding the php-mysql module but it had been compiled for an earlier version of mysql. I ended up just compiling PHP myself with the --with-mysql option. Now we are up and running.
