how to ad the www in front of my store path

I have set up a .htaccess file to redirect visitors who type in mydomain.com to www.mydomain.com. But when I did that, my store did not work right. All of the images were missing including style sheet.

How do I change my store path to ad the www?

I thought it would do that automatically but it didn't. The reason im doing this is so that the search engines will not see two websites the one with www and the one without. As soon as I took the .htaccess script away, everything was working again. Here is what is in the script:

RewriteEngine On

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mydomain.com$

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Thanks!
