SSL costs

Recommended Posts

I now haveOScommerce installed but my control panel tells me that "You are not protected by a secure SSL connection." When I asked my service provider if I could have SSL enabled they told me it would cost me an extra $3.50 a month for my own IP and $150 one off for the SSL. Does this seem fair?

we just installed a ssl certificate from registerfly.com and our control panel says that we 'are not secured by an SSL connection' what else do we have to do? after you go to 'check-out', the http goes to https and it seems that the page doesnt even exist. we dont even get error messages, just a blank page. can anyone help?

You've already started another thread with the same question. Why are you trying to hijack this guy's thread? <_<

if you want to change the box in the admin srea to have the name of the ssl you are using, you will need to program that in there. it really doesnt matter as long as you know you have an ssl certificate and where you purchased it, your customers never see it. if your host is going to charge you 3.50 for an ip address, well that is kind of high. your own ssl certificate (one which i think is worthwhile anyway) will start about $50

That depends on what the host is charged to get the IP's also... :-" Some people pay $1 per and others are paying more... depends on who ya buy them from last I checked....

As far as a certificate - godaddy.com. $29.95 right now for one year. Does the EXACT same as any other certificate.

GoDaddy quote "We own our very own trusted root certificate." I would want to know what that means. If it means it is issued to yourdomain.com and issued by godaddy.com then I would want to know if godaddy is in the Trusted Root Certificate Store on people's browsers. If it is, fine - if it's not then you'll get a warning that the certificate is not 'trusted'.

If all that you want to secure is the 'admin' folder then a self-generated certificate is fine for that - but you wouldn't use it for your shop, because people would also get a 'not trusted' warning for that.

Some Hosts offer a shared SSL, but I am not sure if this will work with OsCommerce, if anybody know if it is possible and how to implement it, please let me know.

We just got a (512) SSL Cert. from Host5.co.uk for $25.00 per year, but it won't work unless you've got your own IP address.
