Shared hosting issue

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

Had a question about the notice:

"There is no username/password to get into the admin area. On a production server you must use a .htaccess file or some other means of keeping people out of this area."

I am a shared hosting customer with a hosting company and they don't allow

.htaccess to shared hosting customers.

Any workaround to shut down the admin area from general public access. OSCommerce was my top choice but am being forced to look into other alternatives due to the above limitation.

there are contributions, sounds more like you need to change hosts, in my honest ipinion. it is not worth the 'cost savings' to go thru headaches there.

Godaddy uses Windows Server 2003. It has it's own security system other then .htaccess. You'll have to ask them how to access that feature.

If the feature is not available, pack your bag and find a better host.
