timbeckham
Europe is on the threshold of legalizing USA-style software patents. For up-to-date information on this subject, check out the ffii.org website, news section: http://kwiki.ffii.org/SwpatcninoEn Can we get feedback from the OSC community on the following topics?: How will software patents affect OSC? PHP? MySQL? Linux? Apache? open source in general? If software patents are legalized throughtout Europe, Microsoft will almost certainly launch a campaign to shut down as many open source projects as possible, probably starting with Linux. How far is MS likely to get in that effort? Will IBM attempt to protect their interest in Linux, by protecting the project from legal challenges? How vulnerable are all the above technologies to legal action, based on patent enfringement? Obviously, this has considerable importance to the OSC project.
