Enzo_UK
I am trying to do a first time install of OSCommerce onto some webspace hosted with UK2.net... When I cam going through the install pages it comes up with this.... The following error has occurred: The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set. Please perform the following actions: cd /home/v/w/(removed for security)/catalog/includes/ touch configure.php chmod 706 configure.php cd /home/v/w/(removed for security)/catalog/admin/includes/ touch configure.php chmod 706 configure.php If chmod 706 does not work, please try chmod 777. If you are running this installation procedure under a Microsoft Windows environment, try renaming the existing configuration file so a new file can be created. I have tried changing the CHMOD using CuteFTP to both 706 and 777 but still comes up with that. I have added the Register Globals Patch files from the Contributions. I am new to all this PHP stuff, have never done anything other than normal html before. Any help is greatly appreciated?
♥Vger
Firstly, have your hosting company switched Register Globals to 'Off'. The Register Globals patch or files contributions only work if they are set to 'Off' and may not work if they are still set to 'On'. Is this a Windows server or a linux/Unix server. If it's a windows server then you can't use FTP to alter the file permissions. It will appear that you have done it but nothing will have actually changed. Try going to your web hosting control panel, find File Manager and see what that says the permissions actually are. You can use that File Manager to alter the permissions for a Windows environment. ♥Vger
Just tried uk2's FAQ's on Register Globals and the only page that had any info on it (according to the search) was a 'file not found' error. Vger
Enzo_UK
There seems to be somthing wrong with the Uk2 site this morning, which isnt good for a hosting company! I tried to set the permissions to 777 again, and the installation seems to have worked now.... Am I right in thinking its not really safe to leave them set to 777, so can I now change them back somthing else now the install is done?
