can't write to images directory

HI all,

 

Error message:

 

Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable:

 

I have used my ftp to change the r/w attributes on the image directory

 

to '777' and still no luck in writing.

 

Does anyone know the way round this, Is there a solution........

 

 

Any help greatly appreciated
