Some of the logos and photos are never going to mess well with the default max settings, I installed autothumbnailer so just putting a default 1 pixel gif there isnt going to cut it as this contrib centers everything in a white(or color of choice) box to the maximum values and resizes all thumbnails to fit with an aspect ratio.
