Hi

It's obvious you have worked hard - so i will work hard for you too - read this with the understanding I am trying to help

OK

What have you done to make this different from stock osC ? From what I can see the dimensions of the page are out of the can, the colour is changed a bit but essentially out of the can, your buttons are out of the can, your columns are chjanged a little but they are out of the can.

What am I saying here - this is stock osC - dead right

You are in the motor game - competitive ?? - maybe only lingerie is more competitive :D - you need to stand out like a sore thumb from the crowd if you want people not only to rememeber your site - but also to do business there.

OK lets get down to specifics

You have chosen in the main to use black fonts on blue backgrounds - ever tried to read that in bad light ? - don't you'll get a headache - make it EASY FOR THE CUSTOMER - if I have to squint to see what you are selling I'll go next door.

Your info box - the first 2 items have a full page width info box, the third (conditions) is half page - why the lack of consistency and exactly what does that condition of use mean ??? your contact us page re-introduces the right column which the top three items did not have - yet more inconsistency .

Clicking on continue shopping from this page http://www.volpaz.com/catalog/shopping_cart.php took me to straight your contact page - Why ?

I am not convinced by your header logo - this could be so much betetr - the mere fact that it transitions does not make it interesting - the colours balcks and deep blues are drab and uniteresting -

Finally just so you know where I am coming from on this - visit the big car and car accessory web sites - I will not suggest any as I dont want to promote any - but spend a DAY visiting their sites - you will see what I mean and this will set the benchmark you have to ASPIRE to in your game.

I know there is alot to do. I've been lurking on the board trying to learn as much as I can. When I opened the site in december I knew BASIC html. Nothing more. So yes there are a BUNCH of problems with the site, I'm working on them, but to keep overhead down I decided not to use a web designer, which i'm guessing most of us do on here.

Could you tell me where in the stylesheet the code is for the blue background and black text part. I want that to be a white or a light grey.

Also if someone could tell me how easy it is to install a skin?

I've got alot of work to do, but the site is workin for us now.

I believe i'm going to do the mod i found in tips and tricks where when someone goes to order it doesn't go to the log in page it goes to a "profile" page.

But any other opinions are welcome!

The biggest thing that I would get sorted out is the way your handling image. osC by default sucks in they way it uses thumbnails. Luckly there are a bunch of contribs out there that make fixing this easy and expand a lot on the functionality. osC is currently downloading the whole image to the user, then resizing it. This is dumb for a number of reasons including SLOW page load time, and distored thumbs. Fix this, and your site will be 100 times better. I like some of the contribs that allow you to have more than one image for the same product. I find that to be really useful. check out the image_html_package, or just do a search in the contribs for thumbs or images, you'll find a bunch. No bad though for a first go at it.

osCommerce is a great piece of software with wonderful contributions.

Spend some time in the contribution area. There are a lot of gems there.
