Guest
I would like to know if osCommerce can be used to sell software and can osCommerce run on PHP5? If so, 1. How does it work, the sequence of events? (IE - user orders and after payment redirected to download) 2. Can it hide the download location? 3. Can it expire the download after a certain time frame? 4. Can it support multiple files in a single software product? For example, in my software package MySoftware, I would have at least three files: - distributionfile.exe - examples.zip - documentation.zip - (patch files.zip) in the future or in cases of large files (85mb), - MySoftware.PartI.zip - 30mb - MySoftware.PartII.zip - 30mb - MySoftware.PartIII.zip - 25 - booga

The package handles downloads by making the link available from the customer's account after payment. The file is stored in a downloads directory and temporarily made available from a separate directory (/pub) with a random codename (I think this is what you were asking when you say "hide the location"). The download can be made available for a number of downloads or a number of days (whichever you choose). As I understand it, the purchase is linked to a single file - so all the multiple files would have to be zipped together. I can't testify to the limits of file sizes. My guess is that would depend on the bandwidth available to you. Hope that helps Simon

Please tell me honestly, I need a couple of features for this to work for my project. Support for: - Multiple downloads - for customer to login to download - Upgrade price for owners of previous versions of the software What are the chances someone could add these features? What is the turn around on features? What is the support level here? As free as free software is without adequate service and support free software can cost more. I don't want to get bit twice. best
Guest
What are the chances someone could add these features? Very good to excellent. If there is a feature that you need/want that's not available, you basically have 3 options: 1) code it yourself 2) suggest it to the core team, and hope they agree with you, then wait for them to add it to MS4 (many many months away) 3) pay someone else (even some of the more experienced members here - - NOT ME) to program it for you as a side job. Free means that you get what's offered, plus advice. Everything else is gravy. Well, everything is gravy. :) What is the turn around on features? I suppose that depends on which method you choose, and who you're asking for the feature. What is the support level here? Since there is no support contract, there is no guarantee of support. If you're looking for an SLA, there are folks that will offer contracted support for osCommerce, but these forums are a moderated free-for-all. Chances are, though, that if you ask a question, someone will have a good answer for it (as you're already noticing). -jared
