Changing HTML back to PHP

Hello:

 

I have been trying to change text on the store pages. I have been able to open the PHP file to show HTML and make the changes that I needed. When I tried to save it again as PHP and upload the file, the page it loaded was duplicated.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the duplication?

 

I have tried to use my backup in Tools in Admin but it wont work. It says there is an error. Is there another way I can save the work I have already done? I have over 3000 products listed and dont want to lose them.
