cannot move categories or edit item

I cannot seem to either move categories or edit the info of a product. I have used one contribution which is the category and manufacturers title and description contribution which I found a bit buggy but other than that it just doesn't work. I can move products into another category but I cannot move a category into another category to make it a subcat. I have to delete them and go INTO the category and create the new subcat there. Also, if I mess up on the title of a product I cannot edit it. I have to delete the entire product and start over - carefully this time!!! no errors, it "looks" like it is working, but nothing happens.
