JonoB
Hi, I am a one man business and I am going away for a couple of days, so dont want to allow anyone to buy goods while I am not around..... I installed the down for maintenance mod, but it doesnt really do what I want, because every page then has "Down for maintenance" on it, and users cant browse the site. So, I thought of putting a notice on the index page (something to the effect that the site is undergiong maintenance and users will not be able to buy anything) and then deleting all the images of the "buy now" and "add to cart" buttons, so that there is no way that a user can add any products to their cart. They can, however, still browse the site with no problems. Any thoughts / suggestions?

If you need to go away for a funeral or something drastic, I could understand. But if you are closing the shop down for any other reason, like vacation, I would never buy anything from you knowing this. All it shows is that you are not really a business man and don't care about customers. If anything you should leave the store open and have someone help you. JonoB
I had a feeling someone was going to bring this up, and I appreciate the input. However, I should have made this more clear in my post, but business rationale doesnt come into this, so please keep any answers to those of a technical nature. Rob123
I guess you could simply tell the customers that orders will not be fulfilled a certain date. You could also repeat the same in the confirmation emails. Put a positive spin and offer reduced shipping or a discount to "make it up". Possible (legitimate) business reasons are trade shows, seminars, storewide inventory and even natural disasters that may have damaged inventory or disrupted fulfillment services. You can be honest with your potential customers and still make sales. Just my 2 cents, Robert
