bdneuman
This forum has been SO helpful in getting the store up and running, I thought I'd ask for some feedback and suggestions. This is a site I set up for my wife to sell her handmade jewelry. Let me know what you all think and if you see anything that you would change. My Store Thanks. AfterDark
Gotta be honest... its not a winner in my mind. Drop all the google ads and banner nonesense. You wotn win customers by promoting the competition. The size is wrong - making a site fit YOUR browser is a big mistake. People dont like horizonta scrolling and designing to fit 1024 px screen is not impressing the 50 + % of users who are still at 800 x 600 You may want to rethink the abrupt end of your header imagery - the relut is not appealing when the header sorty of stops so you can have 3 rather unattractive buttons on the right which only do the same thing as the text links right below them (why anyone ever did that in the first place is stilll beyond me) Also your box colors dont compliment the core color of your site. Try something in a shade of your main color or use a color wheel to find colors that work with, not against. Sorry its not praise at this stage and hope some of this helps. Yuck
I like your header (except the date part) and the products menu. I'm afraid my the rest is not to my taste. That said I'm not the kind of person who might buy your products so do you care? :) I don't understand why you would put google ads leading to sites that are in competition to you. I think that only works on info sites not commercial sites. Religion doesn't work for me, I understand that you and your customers have beliefs but you may be not winning customers like me. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have religious references, just maybe less of them? I don't care what the temperature is in Greenwood. :) I do like the idea of BLOG and Community pages. I intend to have some kind of fluid content also. I'm sure it will get peolple coming back if interested. I understand that this can also help with the search engines. I'm also new to this so my comments may be completely wrong but I hope you find them helpful in some way :)

My Store Thanks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I had a look at your site, i would agree with all comments above, but would like to make a constructive comment if i may, imho, you could work wonders on your site by using styleheets for all your text formatting, also, i sort of think you could rework the colours a little, so that they blend with your product images and flatter them better, the products are really pretty, your wife obviously has a flair for design and colour, why not ask her opinion. Also i'm sorry to say that i have a widescreen laptop and layout really does not work in this resolution, i'm not on my own here, although the majority of users will use 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768, and your site is a little unbeautiful in the higher resolutions. I'm sorry if these comments are not exactly what you want to hear, I'm sure if you looked at other peoples oscom websites yoiu would pick fault with ours too! best wishes and good luck with the site
Guest
All said and done, your iamges look out of place... why not make teh background color match teh background color of all of your products? Just a thought.. also, on the product_info.php file I would make teh images much larger. Just an opinion :) looking good however ! bdneuman
Well, it looks like I have some work to do. I think deep down I knew most of what has been commented so far, but I stare at that site night after night and it's hard to be truly honest with yourself sometimes. Question: Do you think it's a good idea to implement the Center Shop w/ fixed width table in order to accomodate and design for lower resolutions? AfterDark
IMHO yes. I dont use the contribution but do almost all of my osCommerce sites for clients at 760 px width by a different means which works better for me. End result is the same tho. My next step is to move the catalog/ to the home directory and replace the outdated current homepage. Let me know what you think of the new store design. Thanks. That is Such a transformation! Its very very nice and looks about a million times better than before. you should be suitably pleased with yourself! really like the colours, graphics, header images, looks great! I have one question though, how on earth did you get the option type feature contrib to work with the ccgv contrib? I have tried and failed many times, also did you get the option type feature working with copy attributes, or something, or do you have to put all those attributes in individually? again, I have found it difficult to find a simple way to add lots of options to lots of products without it taking forever! Your thoughts would be appreciated, and *love* the new look site!!

There are a lot of boxes displayed, especially on the index page and I wonder if it overwhelms visitors... Anyway, I DON'T use ccgv (yet). It's more important for me to have the option types at this point. I only use coupons right now, but I'd like to get the gift voucher working at some point. I use the attribute manager contribution found here: http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1119 It has a feature that will auto-fill in the check boxes for an attribute with lots of options that need checked. It doesn't take that long to enter a new product, but then we only have about 80 products so far... Good luck! Brian Neuman

Good luck! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> thanks for your reply. i have attributes manager installed, but i must have done something wrong because it just says there are no options under this value when it comes to text options, i'll have to investigate it! I haven't found a coupon contribution, I tried the ccgv but as i said i had huge snags trying to get them both to work! would you mind giving me the link to the coupon contribution you used? many thanks in advance, and good luck with the website! They need to update the Attribute Manager contribution to fix this, but here's what I do: You must use "TEXT" which is product_options_values_id=0. Create a text attribute and assign a value to it (I haven't found a way to assign the "TEXT", id=0 value directly to the attribute and have it show up in the attribute manager). Now it will show up in the attribute manager, but will not be associated with the "TEXT", ID=0. This creates problems at checkout as the attributes description will not be displayed in the cart or in your order notification - makes it tough to fill the order! Anyway, now go to your PHP admin and look in the table, products_options. Find the products_options_id of the text field(s) you added - make a note of the number(s). Now go to products_options_values_to_products_options table and browse or search for the products_options_id's of your text options. For each of these, change the value you find under products_options_values_id to 0. Now it will show up under the attribute manager and be associated properly for the option type attribute contrib. That is the only way I have found to get these two otherwise awesome contrib's working together... Brian Neuman
