How easy is it to add contribution

Hi,

 

Am working on customising my website and am interested in adding a few contributions, especially the category description one. For someone who was a nurse up until last year.....how difficult is it to add a contribution?

 

Any people/companies out there who can do this kind of thing?

Contributions vary in complexity. Some you can install in minutes while others can take several hours, even for experienced installers. On many contributions, it is possible to install them by just copying the files over to your shop and then making a few minor code changes. However, this method can only be done on a clean shop, which you have now. Once you install one contribution, you shouldn't use this method again. So I always tell people to pick the hardest one they are going to use and install that the easy way (by copying files). Then go from there.

 

I'm not sure which contribution you are referring to by "category description," but if it is the one for meta tags, you would be better off install Header Tags Controller, IMO.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking to add a small description under one of my categories with regards to shipping taking 3 weeks for that particular product only.I guess i just need confidence to actually do it now!

Oh, that's not the one I thought you meant. Be sure you backup your files before starting. All sorts of things can go wrong. Also, don't use the FileManager editor in the admin section to edit files since it is broke. Take your time and you can do it. Many people with less experience than you (it is obvious from your post) have managed to make changes. It is quite intimidating at first, but after your first few changes, it gets easier. If you run into problems, post on the forums. Try to explain the problem in detail while keeping it brief and only about one problem. This will usually ensure a quicker response.
