Item added to cart - cart thinks its 3.07lbs????

Added an item to the cart. It weighs 1.2oz which is .07lbs. In the products setup - it asks for "Products Weight" and I put in .07. However, after I update that, and go to the cart, add the item to my cart and checkout - the UPS module tells me 1 x 3.07lbs and proceeds to try to charge $12.00 for ground shipping. Thats not right... what am I doing wrong here? Thanks,

Ok.. found out there is some sort of "Tare" weight thing going on. How does this work? If you ship a larger item, wouldnt the Tare weight change? (Larger box.. different packaging??)

Also - we dont have an account with UPS. Will this cause problems in the UPS estimating of shipping through the cart? We plan on receiving an order, placing the order, packaging it ourselves and taking to the UPS shop locally to ship.

Is the UPS shipping estimation exact - ie. does it change dynamically with UPS's website somehow? Also, is it possible to provide a mark-up on shipping? Say - add $3 to every UPS order automatically for "packaging" ? Thanks,

Heres something else:

Went to UPS' website and used the shipping calculator. Their prices are different than what were calculated in the cart. They show approx $6.50 for ground shipping - but in the cart, it says about $12.80.

The ground price in the cart is close to the UPS 3 Day Select on the UPS' website. Am I missing something? Thanks,

Chris

The package tare weight is set under Configuration --> Shipping/Packaging

Immediately below the tare weight setting is another one for 'Larger packages - percentage increase' covering packages larger than the declared tare weight.

Can't help with UPS though - UK based!

Thanks,

I guess that makes sense - however, my boss would like to add a surcharge to the price of shipping, since we have to package the product here, then drive it to the UPS store to ship it.. she wants to add $7.00 to any order for that trouble. Is that possible? I was talking to her earlier and she was talking about how this would all be a hassle - but I told her that if this can all be automated, then its better cuz then we dont have to waste time calling the customer long distance and talking to them to confirm payment by credit card.

On a side note - what can we do if we want to use FedEX? or a local shipper, in this case "PakMail"? Obviously PakMail isnt a national chain... but they ship things.. dont know how they do it but is it possible to incorperate the cart with them somehow? Thanks,

So - is UPS the only shipper allowed on this thing?

Go to the contributions and look under shipping modules, lots of choices.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
