JoeWoodworker
I woke up this morning and got an email from my hosting company indicating that they had shut down my live Oscommerce store because it supposedly has a security flaw. Since I just quit my day job to work full time on our mail order business, this is a major catastrophy. I'm using a pre-milestone version of OSC (I think its CVS2.1) with about 500 products in the database and 3000 customers. Several questions... Any answers would be tremendously (TREMENDOUSLY) appreciated. 1) Is there a security flaw in the pre-milestone release? 2) Is there any way to easily port over my database to a newer version of OSC? 3) I realize the the forum rules do not allow posting of business recommendations but I would gladly accept email recommendations for a new hosting company. Thanks a million! Joe Evil will always triumph over good... Because good is dumb. - D.H.
FalseDawn
Did they mention what the flaw was? Shutting down a site without pre-warning and trying to resolve the issues first is totally unacceptable. Maybe they are a sh*tty cowboy company and you were taking too much bandwidth or something? If your store is past a certain size, you need virtual or dedicated hosting - a lot of shared hosting companies just don't cut it. Having said that, I'm currently with lunarpages on a shared host plan - they have a great support forum and their customer support is pretty good. Don't hear much bad about them, although the site does slow down during heavy traffic periods...
