Help, attributes driving me mad....

Hi again, I'm trying to get my head around this: A print shop selling the following

Resin Coated Cotton Rag

A4 ?25 ?32

A3 ?37 ?49

Panoramic Cotton Rag

29cm ?25 ?32

48cm ?35 ?46

I've had many attempts at trying to get to grips with this and I'm not even sure that the default OSC can handle this. If I set up the attributes for a Resin coated print it's ok, I can choose between the four options in the top set of prices BUT when I add the prices for the panoramic images, while they appear ok, I simply don't want them appearing for a NON panoramic image etc. Frustration has got the better of me for the moment. Can anyone offer a glimmer of hope? Thanks again all.

I'm not real clear on which options go to which prices with your example here. Can you post a link to the site or try to explain again?

Default osCommerce code for attributes typically adds(or subtracts) a price from the base price of a product. So if you have a core product, then add the attributes to that product, it will add on that price. If you have two products, they each need their own attribute linkage. The default attributes system is pretty weak as it, but not terribly easy to modify.

There is always a glimmer of hope - it's amazing what can be done when you really get into the code!

The site is not live at the moment but here's a link to a PDF from the client with his pricing options, this will, I hope make think a lot clearer. Thanks again, Sarah

Well, leaving shipping aside, I think I would set up 2 products, one of "Standard Print Size" and one of "Panoramic Print Size". For standard, set the base cost at $25, then create 10 attributes for sizes. The attributes will be:

A4, Open edition (+0)

A3, Open edition (+12)

A3+, Open edition (+15)

A2, Open edition (+40)

A1, Open edition (+80)

A4, Limited edition (+7)

A3, Limited edition (+24)

A3+, Limited edition (+30)

A2, Limited edition (+65)

A1, Limited edition (+120)

Then, put the description of Open vs. Limited in the product description. Finally, add another attribute for "Color", and have 2 options, "Full Color" and "Black & White (Limited edition only)"

Follow a similar style for Panoramic ones.

What you really need is dependant attributes, but I haven't released that system for free yet :)

Thanks for that, I've followed your advice and it seems to work. It's a bit of a pain to add these attributes to every product though so I'm looking into adding the Attribute Sorter and Copier to help. Thanks for your help, I now see the light! BTW what's the system you talk about? I'm not adverse to actually paying for something that'll help :-) Sarah
