Data Base Backup Problem

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am new to Oscommerce and hace recently downloaded the latest version and setup my Catalog page with all my data. I now have a problem with the Backup in the Tools_ backup panel. When I click on the link that takes me into the Database Backup Manager page, there is no action button or anything for that fact that will enable me to perform a backup task of all my data, could someone please let me know what I am doing wrong or what else needs to be done, so I can enable this to work so backup can be accomplished.

Thanks in advance

Yeti

I'll take a shot in the dark here, but is there an orange bar at the top of the screen saying that you need to create the backup directory? If that's so, you also won't see the backup buttons until you create it ... so if that's true, make it!

Thanks for the reply Avoisin

You are correct there is a orange bar at the top of the screen saying I need to create a backup directory. Could you tell me where I create that backup directory in which folder etc so I see the buttons and can then backup, thanks for the first reply you have been spot on so far:)

You need to create in in your admin folder and give the folder write permissions so osC can write the backups to the folder.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

I would highly suggest using an FTP client to do this, by the way. I use CuteFTP, but there's lots of others out there too. I would especially recommend not using the file manager to move files around, there is a nasty bug in it.

To say the obvious copy the backup files to a physically different hard drive, in case the disk actually goes bad or whatever. Same goes for image files too! No sense in having backups on the ISP if the ISP gets killed off by a hacker ... ISP's more often than not don't actually backup stuff in a way you can get it.

Hello Avoisin

there is only one file that backups which looks like a text file.sgl is that the only file that should have backed up and what do you mean buy the image files, where are they located, could you tell me the directory they are located in and do they just copy those files to my hard drive. Another question how do I restore from the back up. In the data backup manager page I press the restore button and I have a few options,

Do not interrupt the restoration process.

The larger the backup, the longer this process takes!

Best through a HTTPS connection

The file uploaded must be a raw sql (text) file, and there is a browse box which mean I have to locate the sgl.text file, where is that located.

Hi,

I too am having the same difficulty, however when I created the folder, no matter whether I used FTP or Frontpage or the file manager in either my ISP webshell or the one in ocCommerce, I still am receiving the same error. That is it is not writeable. Any suggestions? I am at my wits end with this. :'(

Thanks in advance!

Shari

Most good FTP programs have a separate option to set the permissions on the backup folder - find that option (some time a right click) and set it to read/write/execute for all groups.

already tried that... i'm not a new windows user. forget I asked.

Well, all I can say is that if you're still seeing that permissions error, you haven't properly set the permissions yet, I don't know of any other cause offhand. Depending on what kind of system you're on, you may need to set the read/write/execute permissions on the group, owner and everyone accounts, or in Unix world, this is known as "777" permissions.
