I would recommend doing this (and all file changes, for that matter) through a real FTP client. Personally, I use CuteFTP, but there's many good ones out there. I tried to do a wget statement: wget --http-user=<userid> --http-passwd=<pwd> "https://www.<domain>.com/<path>/catalog/admin/backup.php?action=backup&download=yes", but it just gave me a saved file with a bunch of HTML in it.
