Changing style of side boxes

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have been able to customise most of this site's look and feel but I'm stuck on this one part.

The site is http://69.50.196.111/catalogue/ at the moment (developing it and then swapping over the domain from the old site).

I would like the left side navigation boxes to have the blue (#000066) background and white text (with perhaps 2 pixel orange top border on the contents) but if I try to change these in the stylesheet, it changes all parts of the site using infoBox styles - including those around "Continue" buttons etc - which is not desirable.

Has anyone solved this simply? All help would be appreciated.

1) Copy the box class - and give it a new name.

2) Change the call to the box class in the relevant box files.

3) Add styles for new box class in .css and tailor as you need.

Your online success is Paramount.

and can I suggest you replace all the table_background images too? although some of your pics of horrible teeth are worse :)

I know they are revolting! I guess the dentist target audience don't think so! The client is actually providing the content and laying that part out, I am just providing the customising of colours, logos etc :)

This is my first foray into osCommerce so I had no idea how to create the blue side panel without just putting in a background gif.

Thanks for the help though - I will have a try at it,

Yesudo, thanks for the clear, concise instructions on how to create more than one kind of box. You wrote...

1) Copy the box class - and give it a new name.

2) Change the call to the box class in the relevant box files.

3) Add styles for new box class in .css and tailor as you need.

Now I'm wondering if you (or anyone else!) could expand on this a little. When you say "copy the box class," do you mean that I should duplicate the file catalog/includes/classes/boxes.php? And rename it, say, boxes2.php? Or do I copy the box class in some other way?

When I "add styles for new box class" in catalog/stylesheets.css, do I need to copy ALL the infobox styles and duplicate them with modified names? There are a lot of them. Or do I simply add one new class?

I'm a newbie, but I've been scouring the message boards and the contributions section to improve my site. It's working! Thanks for the help.

You may find it easier to use a contribution. Not that the way that has been mentioned is wrong or anything There is one that allows you to edit each box individually using a stylesheet. They have basically created a new cell for each box and adds some code to pages so each box can have their own images as well.
