Guest Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 do not remove the .htaccess file from the download directory, it is there for a specific purpose, to prevent anyone from being able to browse it and download whatever they want to. oscommerce handles the downloads fine on its own, all that is required to do is set downloads to true, set order status to updated, make sure you have your products attributes setup properly along with the proper spelling and case (small/caps letters) of the file name. If anyone is having problems, Make sure in your "Download" folder it isn't protected with a .htaccess file. My folder was protected like this and it didn't work, but I deleted the .htaccess file and it worked. humet <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

How will i put that?
Mediajuggle Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 I have .ht access enabled and it works fine... plus it will keep people from downloading your files off-site if they know your folder structure and filename. If anyone is having problems, Make sure in your "Download" folder it isn't protected with a .htaccess file. Guest Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Can someone help me. I have went through this thread like 10 times and followed everyones advice and steps and I still can't seem to add an electronic product. If I give someone access to my site can they take a look at it for me? Thanks in advance
londonmetro Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I am having the same problem, what ive done 1. checked configure.php download directories, 2. check permissions (777) on the directories, 3. the download file names match, 4. listed the file name as the download product attribute with 1 day and 3 downloads allowed, 5. created a product attribute and set an option value. 6. Order process defaults to delivered. Still no link to download the product. What should I do?

Order process defaults to delivered. Still no link to download the product. What should I do? I also worked this thread up and down several times without a functioning download-link. The link was there, but after I clicked I got an error: Server Error! Error 500 www.yourdomain.org Sat Dec 9 20:51:57 2006 Apache/2.0.54 (Debian GNU/Linux) mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 PHP/4.3.10-18 mod_ssl/2.0.54 OpenSSL/0.9.7e So although it is not a Windows-System - as you can see - I switched off "Download by redirect" in Admin-Download parameter. And it works. I tried it several times back and forth: it does not work with it on and it works with it off. Does anyone know, what this parameter is about? And perhaps someone knowledgeble will write a Download-FAQ to put all the data of this thread in one message (not too short). Happy Andreas, who finally solved his problem. osmacguy Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 ok so i have done everything in this forum and several others and it still doesnt work. when i run a test card it says sucesfulyy completed, click here to download your file. the file name appears, but you cant click it to make it download the file. it worked in a test download a few weeks ago. i just uploaded all the new stuff and have spent 2 days chekcin the links etc and everhting is correct. i can type in the link manually into a webapge and it will play the song so there are no problems with that. i even uploaded a picture file with a simple name but again, it comes up with the name of the file asking you to click it to download it but its just text its not an actual link. this problem is pretty common can someone please answer it simply! and if something needs to be changed in a file, please give the approximate file destination of the stock os setup. eg.. ive read so many times change confguration file to blah blah but half the time you dont know where that file is in the directory! please help i just cant seem to understand wat is happening. it seems that it wont create a link, it just shows text. someone must know!!! please help!
osmacguy Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 ok after 11 hours.... do not put in the full path eg... http//:www.yoursite.com/catalog/downloads/thisbloodyfile.zip just put thisbloodyfile.zip in the product attributes bit! and itll work. but then i have this problem 1054 - Unknown column 'o.order_status' in 'where clause' select date_format(o.date_purchased, '%Y-%m-%d') as date_purchased_day, opd.download_maxdays, opd.download_count, opd.download_maxdays, opd.orders_products_filename from orders o, orders_products op, orders_products_download opd where o.customers_id = '3' and o.orders_id = '44' and o.order_status = '3' and o.orders_id = op.orders_id and op.orders_products_id = opd.orders_products_id and opd.orders_products_download_id = '45' and opd.orders_products_filename != '' [TEP STOP] any ideas?
gheffron Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 I haven't read this whole long forum, but I've struggled with this myself and found that many errors with Download Controller v5.3 relate to the download file name having special characters or spaces. Also, be sure that the file extension (.pdf, .exe, .zip, etc.) is tacked onto the filename. (I'm not absolutely sure about that last part, but I'm dead sure about the special characters, as I just fixed this issue on my own site minutes ago.) And, of course, be sure the filename is perfectly entered in the "Catalog: Product Attributes" interface within the Catalog Admin system (I usually copy and paste the filename to be totally sure). These errors will make the "Download" button disappear, which is really difficult to figure out (since you might not even know that it's supposed to be there in the first place. Finally, if everything is correct, the download button should appear next to the file title during checkout (and also in the customer's Account History, under the order). Best of luck, :thumbsup: gheffron okso i have done everything in this forum and several others and it still doesnt work. when i run a test card it says sucesfulyy completed, click here to download your file. the file name appears, but you cant click it to make it download the file. it worked in a test download a few weeks ago. i just uploaded all the new stuff and have spent 2 days chekcin the links etc and everhting is correct. i can type in the link manually into a webapge and it will play the song so there are no problems with that. i even uploaded a picture file with a simple name but again, it comes up with the name of the file asking you to click it to download it but its just text its not an actual link. this problem is pretty common can someone please answer it simply! and if something needs to be changed in a file, please give the approximate file destination of the stock os setup. eg.. ive read so many times change confguration file to blah blah but half the time you dont know where that file is in the directory! please help i just cant seem to understand wat is happening. it seems that it wont create a link, it just shows text. someone must know!!! please help!
gheffron Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 AND last but not least - be sure the product weight is 0 to trigger the system to recognize it as a downloadable products. If you have a weight entered, the download process will not happen.
imusic Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 ok..read the forum and still don't seem to find the answer I am having the same problem, what ive done 1. checked configure.php download directories, 2. check permissions (777) on the directories, 3. the download file names match, 4. listed the file name as the download product attribute with 1 day and 3 downloads allowed, 5. created a product attribute and set an option value. 6. shartlesville Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I have FINALLY gotten this to work (sort of ;) ). The button is there and the link works. I followed all the the above instructions, check permissions, set the attributes, etc. and could not get it to work. There was no link and no button, just text. I too read about uploading it to a file called "catalogdownload" or "oscommercedownload" but couldn't find such a file. I was just looking at the FTP files and it jumped out at me. The catalogdownload file is OUTSIDE the catalog section!!! It should look something like this: yourdomain.com yourdatabaselocation(OScommerce or Store or whatever) catalog admin cache images and a few more catalogdownload <---------- Upload here! <------------ extras I uploaded the file to that folder and voila! It worked like a charm. I downloaded it once and it says I have only 4 more available, just like it should. So make sure you follow all the instructions about setting attributes, etc. but upload the file to this folder OUTSIDE your catalog directory and run a test. Now I just have to figure out why the button is blank and how to change the default status on the FREE Shipper! I know I have it documented somewhere, darn it! :rolleyes: Good luck! K

I have only been able to get the link to work if I put it in both folders though I am not sure why. Anyone know why I would have to have it in 2 folders? I have tried just putting them in one or the other without success. Good luck! K
poppence Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I too am having problems with this. Up to this point I have done everything mentioned above and double checked everything mentioned above. When I run a sample purchase I get the link to the download but I am getting a 404 Not found error listing this directory as not found: http://www.mydomain.com/catalog/pub/.ccunc.../alexus_10ready "alexus_10ready" being the file I am trying to download. Everytime I attempt the download I get the same message except the directory after pub changes e.f. pub/.ccuncgqyqtqhkhup changes to something else unintelligible. Any thoughts? My customers too, although they do get the download links are being sent to a 404 error page after payment. Have been searching for an answer to this problem for ages now and I think I will just close my store and do something else for a living. I cant deal with this stress.
