wow just disabled GZIP compression and the page loads in 7 seconds now instead of 15.

However are there any more ways to easily improve the loading speed?

GZip compression should be enabled but at a setting of 1.

In addition, Show Category Counts should be disabled.

Those two items are probably the biggest performance boosters / killers.

Next you could enable cacheing but that is typically only good when you have a lot of categories.

Besure that logging is disabled too.

You also have a typo on your front page text in the downtime notification.

Could you please let me know why a setting of 1 for gzip compression is the best to use...just curious.

on a totally different note, i would never ever release a site with the original clip art still there. I think it lets down a site which has obviously had a lot of work put into it. If yo have time i would also update the stock buttons, you would be amazed at how much difference it makes. take a look in the extra/button_template for a photoshop file

I ain't got time to bleed

Because you will not get significantly more compression and it is less server intensive.
