UPLOADING PICTURES PROBLEM

blazing

Recommended Posts

Hello

My question is two pronged:

1) When I try to make changes to pictures I receive the following:

"Error Error: Destination not writeable.

Error ERROR_CATALOG_IMAGE_DIRECTORY_NOT_WRITEABLE"

This is seems like a permissions problem BUT which folder/ files do I need to set the permissions on to fix this ?

2) How do I actually do the uploading of pictures ? Do I need to manually upload to the desired directory and then to manully set the path to those pictures for each product ?

Please help...

The directory u need to edit the chmod is the one u setup in the config. It has to be the relative path to the includes/images. folder. once that is correct u can upload ur products & categories etc.. images via the oscommerce admin

Thanks for your reply.

I am quite new to this but have managed to get this far. I am unsure where you mean when you say "...the one u setup in the config" Where exactly is this located and what file do you mean that I need to set the permissions on (777) ?

In laymans terms what is "...It has to be the relative path to the includes/images. folder..."

I am definately a newbie with this...

Thanks again,

Blazing

The problem here is that the store is telling you you don't have permission to upload images. Now assuming you're using ws_ftp or something similar:

1) Open your FTP and connect to your store.

2) Go to public html/catalog, right click on the 'images' folder, and hit 'properties.'

3) Make sure all visible checkboxes are checked. The number displayed should be '777.'

This same procedure applies to all other not-writeable problems too. Just make sure you select all possible permissions like this and you'll be all set.

As far as your second question goes, it's really quite easy. You don't have to do any manual uploading via the FTP. Just log into the admin area, hit "catalog," then "new product" and you'll see a place for uploading your picture along with all the other possible product attributes.

Hope I've helped somewhat.

Your respopnse is much appreciated.

I assumed similar and did exactly as you suggested BUT this folder does NOT allow me to edit the "properties"...The "properties/CMHOD" option for this folder is greyed out...

I'm at loss here as to why this is happening ?

Any other suggestions as to why this might be the case ?

Thanks again,

Blazing

Another option, if your host control panel see if there is a File Manager there, drill in to the images folder and change the permissions there if the option is available.

Or contact your host and ask them if they can do it for you.

Installed Contributions: CCGV, Close Popup, Dynamic Meta Tags, Easy Populate, Froogle Data Feeder, Google Position, Infobox Header Entire Row, Live Support for OSC, PayPal Seal with CC images, Report_m Sales, Shop by Price Revised, SQL Updater, Who's Online Enhancement, Footer, GNA EP Assistant and still going.

I cannot change permissions via my host file manager but have emailed my ISP anyway.

The weird thing is I CAN FTP to that folder with NO problems so I am thinking it is not write protected...

It is just when I right click on the - public_html/catalog/images - folder the properties/CHMOD option is greyed out...

Thought I had it all worked out til this happened ! Geezzzz !

Thanks,

Blazing
