dave111
Ok i've read all the favicon posts, so dont paste links to me, i've read the tutorials on the net. I cant upload the favicon.ico to the root folder because OSC is not installed on root, its on a subdomain and i dont want all my website to show this icon. So i put the icon in http://games.rareglitch.com/ (the directory of the OSC site) But i need to know where to put the <link rel="shortcut ico" href="http://games.rareglitch.com/favicon.ico"> Obviously if i put it in index it will only show on the index page and i dont want to have to go thru adding the link to every page in OSC. Any ideas?
♥Vger
Why bother adding it at all. Since IE 5.1 it's not supported by IE - and that accounts for over 80% of all web users. Vger
poorman
Last I knew Internet Explorer automatically searches for this file in your root and places the icon next to all the favorites and quick links originating from your site. Others need the link ref, for that I see no easy way, other than adding it to all your pages would be it, may be wrong... ArtRat
the favicon sits in the root folder. it does not need any links at all to any file. it just sits in the root. when a user adds the url to the bookmark folder, if supported, a copy of that file is downloaded to the users temp internet folder. the next time they load the url it will grab the icon from their own local drive. I empty my temp folder every other second :P so icons never are saved in my folders... only reason i put the favicon in my root was to stop the error reports when browsers and bots and spiders request it. keeps my log files that much cleaner... so i have more room for the 24.224.160.149 - - [08/Feb/2005:06:00:54 -0800] "SEARCH /\x90\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02....infinity \x90\x90\x90\x90\x90" 414 343 "-" "-" logs !!!
