Please review my estate agent store

Hi folks,

This is my second store in osCommerce. This time it's off the normal path.

My client is an e s t a t e agent.

The site is here

The url is temporary as the clients original site is stil live.

I know there are two pages that are not fully formatted yet - Latest Property and Property updates to your email.

The individual properties are being populated although some are original drafts and have yet to be reformatted.

An example of how they should look can be found in H o u s e s for s a l e

Well done ! :D

Only thing i picked up was first load has your horizantal dhtml menu to the right - if I then click on any menu item the whole horizantal menu shifts to the middle !

I am not a keen fan of wide tables :P - I dont think many people like scrolling left and right as well as up and down - but maybe with real estate and such - you can get away with it due to the value of product.

Good work

I really like your colours and layout. Looks very professional!

A couple of things:

1. Typo on the news and info section: "The minister for the enviornment Martin Cullen..." - correct spelling is environment.

2. The first time I tried to use your property search function I got a little confused. I wasn't sure if I HAD to select something in each field, or if I could leave them blank, or what. No matter what selections I entered, I got no results. (The second time I left everything blank and got results, so now I know the answer.)

3. It wasn't clear when I first looked at the listings whether I could view the info online or if I had to download a brochure. When I hovered over the 'view brochure' link, the ALT text was 'Add to your property porfolio' - some discrepancy there.

Other than that, looks good! Good luck!

Thanks for the time folks,

Charles ... The menu bar showed up on the right then centered on clicking - what browser are you using - sorry I havn't got stats set up yet. I've used Firefox, Opera and IE6 and haven't seen that one.

The wide tables must have been the one property that had three pictures across the page. I've decieded to give the client an Iframe text to insert for displaying the photos in the extra fields contribution.

Andy .... Thanks, just thought it would be different ??????

Terry K .....

1 - Typo, thanks for that. It's a sample text that I put in to show the client for the newsdesk on the front page.

2 - The search function ... . I've had a lot of fun with this. The search is doing, categories ( Property Status), Manufacturers (Property Type) and a predefined selection of the property attributes for the other fields. I was having problems initially, but I thought I had them solved. I realise that without a fully populated site (there are only 6 items at the moment) there will be returns that have no results. I am waiting on the client to populate the site which is on going as I type. Any searches that I have done for properties that exist have turned up. The client should be populating the site over the weekend as I hope to go live towards the end next week.

3 - Thanks for the pickup, I'll see if I can make it clearer.

HEHEHE ....nice use of flash within the header. ;)

The nav text links use too small a font size for my liking at 1024 resolution (pretty standard for web surfers). You may want to increase it one size.

Newest property infobox seems to have some overlapping text. I suspect that's because you are using STS, BTS, or something like that, where you're pointing osC code into certain areas of an HTML page? I could be wrong, here.

Great search engine! Very intuitive move that works well for the market you're in.

BEAUTIFUL product info pages! Job well done.

Sorry was in ahurry when I wrote

The menu first appears on the LEFT then centres when I click on ANY of the menu items - I am using IEv6, wni XP, 1280 x 1024 - BTW still happening today just before I wrote this

erratum

I noticed it happens in this particular context - If I click on the link you have provided and my opening browser window is NOT maximised the link opens LEFT then it centres when I click on ANY link.

IF however I maximise the window before site has loaded - the menu IS centered

Hi

I clicked on the link " Property updates in your inbox" and I am taken to a page where you would like but are not fussed about my name and email address. However, my friends name and email address are required if I want to be informed about updates. I like my friends, but if I am buying a property, I prefer to make my own choice.

I am no expert in English but this phrase does not roll off the tounge very well:

Let us keep you up to date in your property type.

Sleek site.

The entry fields in contact us page are too close to each other. Provide some spacing between them. You have a lot of real estate on the page for it.

Your buttons are giving me a hard time. I have to really strain my eyes to read the text on them. Maybe you should increase the font a little.

Outstanding for a 2nd shop - I really do like it, good color scheme, use of dynamic menu's and the animated logo is a really nice touch.

Thanks for the response folks.

Re the font size on the buttons - I've gotten the drift so far and will up the size. Thank you.

Moonlitsun - no STS, BTS or anything just hard work. What browser are u using to create the effect of the overlapping text, a snapshot would come in handy if you get the chance.

The search is searching specific fields of the product options (property features). I have about fifteen different features/options and this would have looked untidy and well as unnecessary inthe search box. So I've slimmed down the options returned for searching.

BEAUTIFUL product info pages! Job well done.
- Thanks

Charles - I'm using a similar setup and have also used different pc's , resolutions and browsers and have not managed to recreate the menu bar to the left. I'm at a loss to explain why. The menu is Thomas Bratli's of dhtmldentral.com and he's put in a lot of work to ensure cross browser compatability. But seing as u and I are using the browser, os and I've my res set at 1280*960. ?????

Marc - I did say at the beginning that two pages weren't finished incl the 'Property updates in your inbox'' :) . However thanks for spottin me good inglis !!

Nafisa - I kinda like the contact us page. I know that there is plenty of room but I was just trying to clean it up a bit. The buttons - I know ....

Eric - Thanks for the compliment. The menu's I hate to say are hard coded. Yep I've

tep'ed in the href's but that's about it. The searches once again in the menu are predefined for a reason . The only thing I would like to do is to be able to place newsdesk items in either of the specific menu's - services or information for you. But that's another day's work.

Thanks again

Philip

ps Moonlitsun - my client got to the manufacturers list and altered one of my descriptions - elongated the property type box and this has led to the bleed >_< .

Consider it fixed.
