The file has to have its attributes set to allow writing to it. This is usually already set on files so someone must have changed it to read only. Regardless, you need to change the permissions back to 644. You can probably do this via your hosts admin panel or with an ftp program.

Editing files in place on the server is a very bad idea. It is doubly bad if you are using the File Manager in the osC admin panel, as it corrupts PHP files.

 

You should:

 

1) Delete admin/file_manager.php from your server

2) Download a copy of all your site files. Edit the files locally and upload to replace.
