ImpactD Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 Hi just tried a fresh instal off osCOmmerce but I cannot get the database import to work. The problem is it is looking for the .sql file in the root of my server which is unaccessable/unchangable by me. the server has the root then an httpdocs folder that all your webstuff goes in which is where I want the instal program to look for the .sql file. Can anybody tell me a way to chage where the program looks for this .sql file Thanks in advance
Guest Posted February 6, 2005 Posted February 6, 2005 first, no bumping. second, if you place the complete catalog download in your httpdocs directory the sql file will go there with the install directory please read the knowledge base on installatio requirements and procedures
ImpactD Posted February 7, 2005 Author Posted February 7, 2005 first, no bumping.second, if you place the complete catalog download in your httpdocs directory the sql file will go there with the install directory please read the knowledge base on installatio requirements and procedures <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I read the docs, I am testing this before I go ahead and use it alone on a server. so it is in a folder inside of the httpdocs folder, but it still points to the very root of the server, which is unaccessible
Guest Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 if the root of the server is inaccessible then you have property problems on the server itself, as you placing everytiing one level down doesnt matter, it is all based on where it gets placed.
Guest Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Just use phpMyadmin to upload the file from your computer. In other words create the database first, then create the user details (username and password) then apply that to the new database. Modify your Config files in admin and catalog directories, upload these files. Then log into phpMyadmin, go to the SQL section and then click on browse find you file then press Go. and all should be fine.
♥Vger Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I have the funny feeling that this is one of those cgi based installations of osCommerce with limited access to folders and levels - like with PowWeb. Vger
ImpactD Posted February 7, 2005 Author Posted February 7, 2005 Ok, The host I am using is Globat (www.globat.com) and my www directory is the httpdocs folder. The install program is looking for the .sql file one level below my httpdocs folder. I did uplaod the .sql file through phpmyadmin manually but when I slected that the program not import the database, it went through and at the end of the installation no matter whether I chose, admin or ctalogue it brought be back to the beginning instal screen.
♥Vger Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Okay, it's worth saying again - you pay cheap you get cheap! So, for $59 a year you get 75 Gigabyte transfer per month, 5000 pop e-mail accounts, and 5Gb of web server space - give me a break! Does anybody actually believe they can get all that for just $59 a year - and get Support too! I've looked at the 'Testimonials' they carry and a testimonial isn't worth a damn if there are no links to actual websites. I've seen testimonials just like these (in some cases EXACTLY like these) on hundreds of websites. Enough said! You said in your last post I did uplaod the .sql file through phpmyadmin manually but when I slected that the program not import the database, it went through and at the end of the installation no matter whether I chose, admin or ctalogue it brought be back to the beginning instal screen. Okay, what you needed to do was to set up a blankdatabase via phpmyadmin, and not import the oscommerce.sql file (the installation does that for you). However, if you have now done that then you can bypass the installation by setting up both of your configure.php files manually (do a search of these forums - loads of examples), and then after deleting your install folder you should be set up ready to go. ImpactD Posted February 8, 2005 Author Posted February 8, 2005 In defense of Globat I have all my clients let me handle hosting (10 + me) and have never had a problem. I get suppor over chat and phone immediately and its a great service. I'll try some of the suggestions thank you.
