ShineGirl Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 Chekc it out at alternativeyou.ath.cx It's still glaringly standard, but at least it works! Let me know what you think, and if you run into any problems. Cheers, Annette
Guest Posted February 4, 2005 Posted February 4, 2005 suggestions: 1) install an image thumbnailer 2) remove this: 58949 requests since Tuesday 27 April, 2004 from the footer 3) If you don't remove the border from your tracking image (you know the one at the bottom of the page), people are going to click on it like I did and wonder what exactly you are tracking. It brings up privacy concerns. 4) in your privacy policy, you state: "We will not sell, trade or make available any personal information given to us." You need to amend that, else you can't ship any packages or process any payment information without violating your own privacy policy. 5) Consider only displaying the "reviews" box in column_right if there are actually reviews to be seen. -jared

Cheers, Annette <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi 1) Some of your pages are l;oading very slowly on Broadband - have a look at optimising your images before you load them, and thumbnailing them when you upload them. 2) Use the gzip compression in your admin area to compress the html. This will speed things up a little bit more as well. 3) With product descriptions you have pdf files - another click for a weary shopper on a slow connection - bad move. Put the information inline - people dont mind reading long copy - in fact they like it - the more you tell, the more you sell. But dont make them work for the information with extra clicks etc hth Charles A kite flies highest AGAINST the wind ! ShineGirl Posted February 5, 2005 Author Posted February 5, 2005 Thanks for the tips so far! Can anyone suggest an image tumbnailer that works for them? I have been manually resizing most of the images and non are over 58kb (most are between 1kb and 10kb), however we are also on a broadband connection with Tel$tra, and they are crap :( The available PDF files were simply printable information sheets. They contained no additional information, and I have finally decided that module is completely useless! (for me anyway) So thankyou - you've made my decision for me! ;) 2) Use the gzip compression in your admin area to compress the html. This will speed things up a little bit more as well. I have done this, but can you (or someone) tell me what exactly it does? Thanks again! Annette

Annette <{POST_SNAPBACK}> gzip compresses the html from your server to the viewers browser - in effect it makes the process of loading an html file much quicker as it is compressed on the server and decompressed by the viewers browser. search for gzip compression on the web for more details hth Charles A kite flies highest AGAINST the wind !
