I have a website at www.littleprincessbows.com Well A friend of mine hosts it for me. She sent me the link to the admin panel and I have set up my catalog. But as far as making changes I haven't. Besides, things I have done to changing the banner and small things like that from the admin panel. So I am wanting to re-do my store a bit. So I downloaded the OsCommerce myself. Well then I read that I needed to install EasyPHP to help me. So I did that. Then I read the instructions on this site...

http://www.canowhoopass.com/guides/easyphp/running.php

I did ok until I got to number 5. Then I found out that AceFTP works well with this program. So I downloaded that. The only FTP I have ever used is Trellian.. and I am still somewhat of a novice.

Ok.... so what I mostly want to do is to change the background colors, font, and insert my logo.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

I posted on this site once before a long time ago for help. Someone e-mailed me and offered to help with payment. I cannot afford to pay for help. So if someone could just offer some tech suppor that would be so awesome. Thanks so much!

To change color schemes and such your starting point is stylesheets.css in the Catalogs directory.

Take a look at that AND read the kb topic on css stylesheets - then play around with the settings and see how they change your various pages. Soon you will understand what to change to get the color effect you want.

To insert your logo read the kb topic (search for logo in the kb), but briefly it will point you to making changes in your catalog\index.php file

OK... I went into catalog and then opened the file called stylesheet but it doesn't say .css after it. I opened it and it opened in notepad with some fot info.. etc. Is this correct? And if so How do I get the information from my admin panel of my current website into that stylesheet in order to work on it?

Ok, I have read on that. BUT, where does this PHP and the AceFTP come in? I am totally lost.

PHP is required to be installed on the Web server RUNNING the osCommerce system. So your friend should have that sorted. The FTP program is just a way to get access to your friends computer to be able to make changes to the osCommerce's files and such.

To change the style, the admin section of osCommerce provides a bit of help, but as mentioned, its the css style sheet that holds the power. It's like a 'skin'. A few changes to that, and the ENTIRE site changes! So learn about style-sheets, edit the required bits in the css sheet that's in the catalog directory, and give that file to your friend, or use an FTP program to upload to your friends server (where your website is contained)

Ok.. what what you are saying is that the info I need is on her computer in the css sheet? Her company also hosts my site. I cannot get in contact with her. I have tried for days. Am I stuck without her?

Well... The CSS file controls the design and layout. The background, the text etc. I think maybe the osCommerce allows you to change the title picture, but not much else. It's that one file that controls the graphics of the entire site. It's why CSS is so powerful - like adding skins to your entire webpage.

Your gonna need to know a bit about CSS before modifying it, but it's quite easy.

Has she given you a way to login to the server via FTP? She'd would have to have enabled an FTP server, and given you a username and password to access your webpage files.

If she didn't then yes, you are essentially locked out.
