changing my index page

I'm new to all of this and not great with cgi or php. I'm pretty happy with everything so far i've got but my main page needs work. I want to keep my header and the left and right columns but I want to totally redo everythign in teh middle.. i've looked through the index.php file and looke dit over and looked it over.. it doesn't make alot of sense to me.. i'm not sure where to start my editing.. such as what line.. i just want to change my main apge not my catagory pages.

 

what i'd like to do is have a column for like news and articles and such, then another column for the new products next to that not at the bottom where it is.. i only want to show items that are in stock there thuogh not pre-order stuff.

 

how do i rearrange these columns in index.php

Hi

You need to edit the file called mainpage.php. It is in catalog/includes/languages/mainpage.php.

Do not edit index.php if you are not that sure of your way around oscommerce.
