Hi all - I have read so many threads on this, and seen so many examples, and I still am seeing requests over and over on setting up the includes/configure.php file.

These settings seem to be VERY important, and it seems to me that they MUST be changed for the cart to work.

(BTW - the whole catalog, admin and everything else works PERFECT without changing a thing in configure.php, BUT, I have not gone live and tested a REAL credit card transaction).

I am actually surprised that these settings are not part of the install, or that there is not at least SPECIFIC info for setting the data in configure.php....................is there an authorative source to get the settings straight (examples) for both a non-secure and SSL site.

Also, I keep reading that once you install your SSL then you need to change the "http" to "https" through out the site. I would expect to change that somewhere BUT WHERE, AND HOW MANY PLACES, AND HOW MANY FILES, DO YOU HAVE TO "CHANGE" THIS?

OSC is so awesome, I am very impressed, but this part, at the end here, of getting it to work is totally frustrating.

Newbie,

Yes, they're important. No, you don't usually need to change them unless something about your store changes.

If it ain't broke...don't fix it.

Which install did you go through? I've installed about 100 osCommerce shops, and probably 95 of them handled the configure.php perfectly just by answering the questions in the installer.

You have to change one (1) (more than 0 but less than 2) line in configure.php to "install your SSL." This is of course dependent on your host enabling SSL and the other settings (outside of osCommerce) being correct. If you did not provide your secure server address in the install, you will need to provide that as well (also in configure.php). osCommerce takes care of the rest. You don't want https on EVERY page, that's unneccessary - only pages with personal information (ie, create account) and credit card information (ie, checkout pages).
