Securing the site, post-configuration

Ive got my installation up and running and a template of sorts in place to begin building the site.

I initially had some problems with chmod'ing some files to lock things down, and locked myself out of the admin panel. Via FTP, I went in and chmod everything back open so that anyone could see it again. However, I must have missed something, because now my admin images are coming up as red x's.

I guess my question is, Im trying to follow a contribution altering code to require a user login to access the control panel, but I believe all of my files are too open for it to even ask. Even though the code has been modified, I still do not get prompted. What is a good chmod number to set everything in the admin folder to (including all subs and child objects?) Mind you, when I took all group/user priviledges away from the files, I was no longer able to access it myself.

I am the only admin/SU who will be doing this and I want it to prompt me for user/pass every time the admin site is accessed.

Thanks for any help. Also, if any of you more experienced wouldnt mind nosing around to check for other issues I may have overlooked, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!
