Guest Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 This is what happens: Customer makes a purchase. Payment is received. I go into my Admin page and change the status of the order from pending to processing. It generates an automated e-mail to the customer.....which is entirely blank. Only the subject line is showing anything.....Order Update. Now, I can live without the e-mails being sent. Problem is....one of the nice things about this software is that the customer can log-in and view the status of their order on-line. BUT....in order for them to see a status log....I will have to change their status from pending to whatever and each time....it's sending a blank e-mail. Now, people are writing me saying....is everything okay with my order? I just received a blank e-mail called Order Update. ??? If you can't fix the e-mail itself, then how can I turn it OFF so the status is changed and that can be viewed on-line (that part IS working), yet no more e-mails are being sent everytime I change the status? Any suggestions? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So far, all I've learned is that when you change a customer's order status....uncheck the box that says 'notify customer'. That will stop the e-mail. But....WHY the e-mails are blank.....that's the question.

Hmmm....... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Adam, Looks like it's just you and me in this one. I need to ask you....have you installed ANY contributions to your OSC? I just did a comparison of sorts with my orders.php file to another's whose Order Update e-mails are working just fine. They're identical. However, I did install the 'purchase without account' contribution many weeks ago and now I'm wondering if that may be the culprit, as my Order Update e-mails are blank just as yours. Andrea
adam71o Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 I did TRY to install the PWA contribution but could not get it to work without messing up all of my custom formatting. I BELIEVE I resorted everything back to stock when I gave up.

Are you customers receiving the other emails (new acct, new order). Are they blank too? 2. Do you get the emails from the contact_us.php page? 3. Which OS is your hosting server on Linux or Windows? 4. What are your email settings in the admin Administration >Configuration > E-mail Options Robert

My threory... based on the fact that other emails are ok. There is a problem with admin/orders.php. Did you ever update the file or modify it for a contribution? You may want to back it up and restore one from the original. It will prove (or disprove) my theory. All other e-mails are being generated and are being received by the customer. It's just the Order Update notifications that are blank. My admin/orders.php file has references to 'purchase without account' all thru it...it certainly is one of many files that were modified or changed to make that contribution work. I don't dare restore the original one...that will wreck my website, I fear. I'm too skiddish with PHP script, even after installing PWA. I just conducted a little test, wondering if only those who use the PWA method are getting the Order Update e-mails and, nope...they're blank, too. I aparently failed, because after loading a fresh copy of admin/orders.php , my "order update" email is perfect. Puggy, I'm workin on this for you, I should post a fix for you within a few mins........

I don't know, BUT this is an error left by whoever submitted the last version, because I had the exact same problem of some of the code being left commented ( // ) out. Try that one change and get back to us.
