Guest Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Hi I'd really appreciate a review of our new site www.bookshaker.com I installed this myself - my first full project - the forums have been invaluable and the contributions are cool, thanks in advance for your reviews. Debs
radders Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 I took a quick look. Fairly stock but I can see you have added in a bookseller contribution. All seems to work. I looked for information about who you are and may have missed it. I couldn't find any books on your site only pdf file. I guess they will come later. Do people actually pay this sort of money for a book they have to print themselves?
Guest Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 The animated banner at the top is - well it's like advertising your site on your own site. It just doesn't work for me. It looks more like a link banner than a header logo. I like the green, but I suggest fiddling with the shade a bit to make it a little softer - like sage green or a little darker. I think the best seller list should be shrunken to the top 5 to shorten that side bar a bit and even it up with the other side bar. Or you could add the tell a friend contrib onto the left bar to lengthen it a little. Also, rather than a separate info box for your support desk, try putting the link to it in the information box. Hope that helps!
dakatone Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 Ok, I clicked on the Lean Marketing Press copyright link. Only indication I saw as to who you are. It links to a mildly (VERY mildly) informative page. I think with the addition of a detailed about us page you would have a nice site. I agree it is very stock in appearance, but it gets the job done very nicely. I would spend more time personalizing the welcome message and the surrounding area, but all in all pretty good. I particularly am glad to see you advertising yourself on your e-commerce site. Why on Earth would you want to advertsie anyone else? To add distraction to an already easily distracted consumer and hopefully lead them away from your site for a measly 5 cents (or is that pence)? I do not recall that as the plan :D Good job on a very effective banner that does what it should, advertises your products and services not your competitors! It is hardpressed to find a successful e-commerce site (selling products or services) that advertises for others. Congratulations on what I think is a pretty good job for a first. Refine, combine, optimize. Hope this helps and best of luck! Ruhl
Guest Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Hi Everyone thanks so much for your feedback - we've taken it on board and made some changes - and here are some replies: radders - we've added a better about us page, and yes people do pay money for good e-books - though there are printed (POD) books on there too StarryJen - we moved the support link into the info box, changed the colour completely, and shrunk the best sellers list dakatone - have added the detailed about us stuff, and personalised the home page message RE: Banners for us on our home page - strangely these do really work - we're collecting the stats and seeing what ones work the best - but they're all getting good click throughs (10% plus) and good follow through Thanks again - we're always looking for better ways of doing it and welcome any other feedback you have speak soon Debs
