Default shipping charge question

How can I reset the default shipping charge? It's apparently set to $5.00. I ship only by USPS Priority in the US, and always at $3.85. I'd like to show this in the shopping cart. There is nothing I can see in the configuration array that will give me control of this.

 

Also, how do I get rid of the mention of "manufacturer" next to item names? These items are my own, there is no need to mention that. I'd also like to remove the pulldown manufacturer list from the sidebar.

there is no default shipping charge that I am aware of.

Maybe you have your tare weight set.

 

you can remove the manufacturer from the admin section and the box from includes/column_left or right.

like I said, there is none.

 

I think that standard shipping fees are shipping module dependant so I would search for a shipping module that lets you set a default shipping charge, there most be several out there. In cash on delivery you have a standard handling fee for instance.

I have PayPal and Check/Money Order installed as the only payment modules. When I step through the checkout as a customer, the only thing I see for shipping is:

 

Shipping Method

This is currently the only shipping method available to use on this order. 

 

Flat Rate 

Best Way  $5.00 

 

I'm only trying to determine where this is controlled; where I can edit it. Do I simply need to install the other modules?

Ah HA. Now I find it. It's under Modules/Shipping in the Admin control panel. I must have been blind. :)

I'm attempting to set up the USPS module now. I have an account with them for using the Priority online label creator, but this doesn't seem to be adequate for their needs. If I have USPS enabled as an option (or the only option) for mailing, I get an error when I try to test the checkout.

 

Shipping Method

This is currently the only shipping method available to use on this order.

If you prefer to use USPS as your shipping method, please contact the store owner.

 

Do I need a higher level of account with them? I have my correct user name and password installed, and I have chosen the "production" server. Is something else missing?

 

I would be happy to simply use $3.85 as the Flat Rate, since that is all I ever charge, but if I do that I want to edit the text to reflect that this is Priority, not just Best Way. If I could find that text in a PHP file, I'd be set.
